Matthew McGinity is Professor of immersive media design at the TU Dresden Faculty of Computer Science. His research concerns the foundations, technology, applications and implications of immersive media – media in which virtual and remote people, objects, events or worlds are experienced as real and present. Prior to joining TU Dresden in 2020, he was chief engineer at the iCinema Centre for Interactive Cinema Research, UNSW Sydney. Outside of academia, he has developed immersive and interactive systems in industrial and artistic contexts, ranging from immersive museum exhibitions to the development of astronaut training simulations at the European Space Agency. His creative work has been exhibited worldwide, including at the ZKM Karlsruhe, the Sydney Biennale, the Seville Biennale of Contemporary Art, and the Roma Europa and Shanghai eArts festivals.
