Max Kirchner is a PhD candidate in Machine Learning Engineering and Surgical Data Science at the National Center for Tumor Diseases (NCT) Dresden, within the Department of Translational Surgical Oncology (TSO) led by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Stefanie Speidel. He received his Diplom-Ingenieur in Electrical Engineering from TU Dresden in 2023, including an Erasmus exchange at Aalto University in Espoo, Finland. From February 2023 to April 2026, he was affiliated with the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) at NCT Dresden, and has since been employed jointly at TU Dresden and the University Hospital Dresden (UKD). His research focuses on federated learning, foundation models for surgery, and medical image and video analysis. He contributes to the EU-Projects NearData and CloudSkin, the BMBF-Project SurgicalAIHub Germany, and the 6G-Life project, working toward privacy-preserving multi-institutional AI and large-scale surgical video understanding.
