On 17 October, the Thinknet 6G Summit 2024 was held in Munich, an international event dedicated to the next generation of communication networks: 6G. This summit was a unique opportunity for professionals, researchers and companies to discuss the future of telecommunications and to explore the technological advances being made.
The day featured a series of presentations and discussions among experts, offering insights and updates on the latest developments in the field of 6G. Among the keynote speakers, Prof. Frank Fitzek and Prof. Wolfgang Kellerer, two of the key figures in the 6G-life project, contributed significantly to the discussion, offering different but complementary views on the future of this technology.
🔹 Prof. Wolfgang Kellerer addressed the topic of ‘Technological Sovereignty in Communication Networks’, emphasising how crucial it is for countries and regions to maintain control over their communication infrastructures. In an era of increasing dependence on global technologies, ensuring technological sovereignty becomes essential for digital security, data protection and innovation.
🔹 Prof. Frank Fitzek, on the other hand, took part in a much-anticipated discussion on ‘Is 6G an evolution or a revolution?’, analysing whether 6G will represent a natural continuation of the progress of 5G or a radical transformation in the way communication will take place. The question is crucial, as it could define not only technological innovations, but also the impact this new generation of networks will have on society and industries.
