M. Ercan Altinsoy received the mechanical engineering degree from the Technical University of Istanbul, Istanbul, Turkey, and the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from Ruhr-University Bochum, Bochum, Germany. He is currently a Professor of Acoustic and Haptic Engineering, TU Dresden, Dresden, Germany. He was a Member of the International Graduate School for Neuroscience with Ruhr-University Bochum. After his receiving the Ph.D. degree, he worked with HEAD acoustics as a Consulting Engineer. Since 2006, he has been with TU Dresden. His main research area is perception-based engineering. His research interests include haptic interfaces, haptic perception, audio-tactile interaction, vibroacoustics, whole-body vibrations, product sound and vibration design. He is a Lothar-Cremer medalist of the Acoustical Society of Germany, DEGA. He is one of the founding members of 5G Lab Germany and one of the core team members of the cluster of excellence Centre for Tactile Internet with Human-in-the-Loop. In 2018, he was awarded a Visiting Professorship from Tohoku University, Japan.
