After studying in Dresden and Glasgow, Raimund Dachselt received his Dipl.-Inform. degree in Computer Science from the Technische Universität Dresden, Germany in 1996, a postgradual degree in Design & Computer Science from Burg Giebichenstein, Hochschule für Kunst und Design Halle, Germany in 1998, and his Dr.-Ing. degree in Computer Science in 2004 from TU Dresden. After postgraduate research at TU Dresden, he was appointed Juniorprofessor (assistant professor) for Computational Visualistics & Software Engineering at the Otto-von-Guericke University of Magdeburg, Germany and in 2011 associate professor for User Interface & Software Engineering at the same university. In April 2012, Dachselt became a full professor of Computer Science and head of the Interactive Media Lab at TU Dresden. At the Faculty of Computer Science he was elected director of the Institute of Software and Multimedia Technology in 2015 and served as vice-dean from 2016-2018 and again from 2021 on.
His research interests are natural human-computer interaction (HCI), interactive data visualization beyond the desktop, and Mixed Reality interaction. In more than 260 publications, he and his team made major HCI and visualization contributions utilizing multimodal interaction in multi and hybrid display environments. He co-authored two major German textbooks on HCI and received more than 15 Best Paper and other publication awards. Besides being active in two clusters of excellence and larger collaborative projects, Dachselt has been the Dresden spokesperson of the Transregional Collaborative Research Center (SFB/TR 248) Center for Perspicuous Computing (CPEC) since 2019.
